01 Which side of the border does the plan cover?

The French side. Saint Martin and Sint Maarten share what the European Commission calls the smallest land mass in the world belonging to two countries. Our plan lists Orange only, a network on the French side. We don't sell a Sint Maarten plan at the moment, so don't count on this eSIM on the Dutch side.

Juliana airport (SXM) is on the Dutch side and Grand-Case airport (SFG) is on the French side, so the airport you use decides when this eSIM can take over. Grand-Case is a regional airport, used for hops such as the flight to Saint Barth.

02 Does EU roaming work on both halves of the island?

Only on the French half. Saint Martin is an EU outermost region, so Luxembourg's POST, for example, lists it in its EU zone, and French plans get home prices there under Arcep's rules. Sint Maarten is a Dutch overseas country and territory, and Dutch operator Odido sells passes for it among its destinations outside the EU.

Near the border, a phone with roaming switched on can pick a Dutch network, which your operator then bills at its rate for outside the EU. Setting network selection to manual and choosing Orange keeps you on the French side. Our eSIM can't run up a bill that way, because it is prepaid, but your home line can if you leave its roaming on.

03 How good is Orange around Marigot and Grand-Case?

Good, going by the regulator. Arcep's 2025 tests on Saint Martin put Orange first for voice calls without audible disturbance, with Free and Digicel joint second, and Dauphin matched Orange on web page loading. Orange's 5G reaches Grand-Case, Marigot and Concordia so far, and Orange says the rollout is still spreading.

Arcep measured 5G on Saint Martin for the first time in 2025 and found no significant difference from 4G yet. For maps, messages and calls over apps, 4G does the job.

04 Setting up before you land at Juliana airport

Do the setup at home. If you land at SXM, your first stretch is on the Dutch side, so install the eSIM over wifi, name the line so you can spot it, and leave it switched off. Switch it on, with data roaming enabled for that line, once you're in French Saint Martin. Its days start at that first connection.

Keep your home SIM on for calls and texts if you need them, but check what your own operator charges on the Dutch side before you use its data there. Our plan is data only, so calls and messages go over apps such as WhatsApp.

05 Picking a plan, and adding Saint Barth

For a week on the French side, 1 GB for 7 days at $1.29 covers maps and messages, and two weeks fits 3 GB for 15 days at $2.10. If you'd rather not count, daily plans give full speed up to 1 GB or 3 GB a day, then up to 1 Mbps.

Don't count on it. The plan is sold for French Saint Martin and connects to Orange, a network on the French side. Sint Maarten is a separate country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and we don't sell a plan for it at the moment.

No. Sint Maarten belongs to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but the EU treats it as an overseas country and territory, outside EU roaming. Odido, for example, lists it among its destinations outside the EU. Cross into French Saint Martin and EU roaming rules apply again.
