eSIM for Greenland

Greenland has no roads between towns and a giant ice sheet in the middle. Because of that, mobile signal only exists in and around the coastal settlements where people actually live. Nuuk is the biggest town and the most connected place in the country. TELE Greenland 4G is stable here, so streaming, video calls and uploading photos all work fine. The airport, many hotels and most cafes also have free wifi, so you can save your data for when you are out walking the colourful old harbour or taking in the Sermitsiaq mountain views.

If Nuuk is your main base for a short trip, the 1 GB for 7 days plan at $8.43 is often enough for maps, messaging and light browsing while you lean on wifi for the heavy stuff. Staying a week or two and posting a lot? The 3 GB for 15 days plan at $22.48 gives you more room without overpaying.

Ilulissat is the icefjord town and one of the most visited spots in Greenland. In the town itself the 4G is reliable, and the airport has free wifi too. You can share photos of the icebergs and check boat times without a problem while you are in the settlement.

The catch is the boat trips. The moment you head out onto Disko Bay for a whale tour or an iceberg cruise, the signal drops away. The same goes for the longer hikes once you get far enough out of town. Grab your photos and post them when you are back in the settlement.

For a few days around Disko Bay with some video and lots of photos, 3 GB is a comfortable amount. The 3 GB for 30 days plan at $23.90 is handy if your trip is spread over a longer window.

Sisimiut, Maniitsoq and Aasiaat are smaller than Nuuk but still proper towns with good network coverage. TELE Greenland gives you 4G in all of them, so your eSIM keeps working as you move up and down the coast by plane or coastal ferry. Aasiaat airport has free wifi as well.

Down south, Qaqortoq is the largest town and has solid coverage plus airport wifi, so it is an easy place to catch up online before heading into the green valleys and sheep farms of the region. Kangerlussuaq, the old international gateway near the ice sheet edge, also has free airport wifi, which is useful for that first connection right after you land.
