This is an important thing to check before buying. Carrier-locked phones only work with SIM cards (including eSIMs) from their locked carrier -- so our eSIM won't work on a locked device. To find out, go to your phone's Settings and look for "Carrier Lock" or "Network Lock" status. Or just call your carrier and ask them directly. Most phones bought outright -- not on a monthly contract -- are already unlocked.

Your plan doesn't start the moment you buy it — and it doesn't start when you install it either. It starts the second your phone connects to a local network at your destination. So if you land on Monday but only turn on data roaming on Tuesday, your plan starts Tuesday. We recommend installing the eSIM before you leave home (it's easier on Wi-Fi), but only activate it when you actually arrive.

It depends on the plan you choose. Single-country eSIMs only work in that specific country. But we also sell regional plans — like Europe, Asia Pacific, or Global — that cover multiple countries in a single plan. No need to buy a new eSIM every time you cross a border. Just check the plan details to see which countries are included.

When your ship is close to the coast, your eSIM will likely pick up signal from land-based networks nearby. Also worth checking -- is your phone carrier-locked? Some locked phones block eSIMs from other providers. If none of that helps, email us at support@megaesim.com with your order number and we'll get it resolved fast.

Here's what to do: delete the eSIM from your old phone first, then log into your MegaEsim account, grab your QR code, and scan it on the new device. Good news -- any data you had remaining carries over, so your plan continues from exactly where it left off.

Most of our plans are data-only — so they don't include a regular phone number for calls and SMS. But honestly, you don't really need one. Apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, and Google Meet all work perfectly over your eSIM data. Just keep your home SIM active in your phone alongside the eSIM, and use that for any calls or texts that come through your normal number.

The easiest way is to log into your MegaEsim account on our website -- it shows all your active plans and remaining data in one place. You can also check directly on your phone under Settings > Mobile Data (or Cellular Data on iPhone), where your device tracks usage per SIM. Some Android phones even show it in the notification bar.

Our eSIMs are data-only, which means they don't come with a phone number for receiving standard SMS texts. Your normal texts will still arrive on your home SIM as usual -- just make sure your home SIM is still active. Messages through WhatsApp, iMessage over data, or any internet-based chat app work perfectly fine through your eSIM.
