For a one or two week trip around Managua, Granada, León, and the beaches, the 3 GB for 15 days plan at $7.04 or the 3 GB for 30 days plan at $7.14 is the sweet spot for most visitors. Pick 5 GB for 30 days at $11.05 if you stream music on long bus rides or video call home often. Go with 10 GB for 30 days at $18.03 only if you work online, upload lots of video, or share your data with a laptop.

These are handy if you land at Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua and only need to order a ride, message your host, and pull up directions before a connecting trip. For anything longer than a day, the 7 day or 30 day plans give you much more data for your money.

Claro covers all the main cities and tourist spots, including Managua, Granada, León, San Juan del Sur, Ometepe Island, and even the Corn Islands and the Atlantic coast. Speeds are usually fine for maps, social media, and video calls.

In Managua, Granada, León, and Masaya you can expect steady 4G almost everywhere. Beach towns like San Juan del Sur are well covered too, so streaming and calls work fine.

On Ometepe Island the towns of Moyogalpa and Altagracia have good 4G, but the signal thins out to slower data along the ring road and disappears on the upper slopes of the Concepción and Maderas volcanoes. If you plan to hike or visit very remote spots, download your offline maps first. A small plan plus offline maps usually beats paying for data you cannot even use up there.

Buy and install the eSIM while you still have home wifi. You get a QR code by email. Scan it with your phone camera and follow the short setup steps. Installing it does not start the clock, so you can do this days before you leave.

When you land in Managua, turn on the eSIM line and switch on data roaming for that line. Roaming just lets the eSIM use the Claro network, and it does not add any extra charge on our plans. Tip: take a screenshot of your QR code before the flight in case airport wifi is slow.

A local Claro SIM from a shop in Managua can be cheap, but you have to find a store, show your passport, and sometimes deal with Spanish only staff. That eats into your first day. Hotel and cafe wifi is free but slow and not safe for banking or work.
