Grande Comore, Anjouan or Moheli: staying online on the islands

Yes, you can use an eSIM in the Comoros. Our plans start at $6.99, need no local SIM or registration desk, and count from the moment the eSIM first connects on the islands. The country has two mobile networks, Yas and Huri, and three islands to move between, so keep offline copies of anything you need on travel days.

01 Does a travel eSIM work in the Comoros?

Yes. Our Comoros plans give you mobile data on the islands, starting at $6.99 for 1 GB over 7 days. They are data only, and the days start when the eSIM first connects in the Comoros, not when you buy it.

If you are heading to Grande Comore, Anjouan or Moheli, buy your data before you go. Arrival logistics here are not the place to also be solving a SIM card.

02 Yas and Huri, the two networks on the islands

The Comoros has two mobile networks: Yas, which traded as Telma until its owner Axian rebranded it in 2024, and Huri, the mobile brand of Comores Telecom. Your phone picks up the local network on its own once you switch on the eSIM line and turn on data roaming for it.

Plan your online time around the three island capitals: Moroni on Grande Comore, Mutsamudu on Anjouan and Fomboni on Moheli. Download what you need before heading up Mount Karthala, the active volcano that is the country's highest point at 2,361 metres.

03 Travel days between Grande Comore, Anjouan and Moheli

Keep a power bank in your bag and top up your phone whenever you can. A flat phone takes your maps, tickets and contacts with it, and that hurts most on a day when you are moving between islands.

Getting between the three islands is where a working phone matters most. Confirm your onward travel in person where you can, and keep contact numbers written down rather than only in an app.

04 Picking a plan size for the islands

Buy small. The 1 GB for 7 days plan at $6.99 covers a short visit with maps and messages. For a longer stay, take 3 GB for 30 days at $14.99, or 5 GB for 30 days at $22.99 if you send a lot of photos.

Download offline maps for all three islands before you travel, along with any accommodation details and ferry or flight contacts.

05 Mayotte is next door, but it needs its own plan

Mayotte is part of the same Comoro archipelago, but it is a French overseas department, and we sell it as a separate plan. If your trip takes in Mayotte as well, add our Mayotte plan for that leg.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our Comoros eSIM.

It joins a local network on the islands by itself once you switch the line on and turn on data roaming for it. The islands have two mobile networks: Yas, which used to be Telma, and Huri from Comores Telecom.

Treat the towns as your connected time. Moroni, Mutsamudu and Fomboni are the places to catch up on messages, so plan the interior and Mount Karthala as offline time.

Most phones from 2018 onward support eSIM. Dial *#06# to check for an EID number and make sure the handset is carrier unlocked.
