What Is a Vanuatu eSIM?

A Vanuatu eSIM is a digital data plan that gives your phone mobile internet across Vanuatu without a physical SIM card. You buy a plan, scan a QR code, and you are online. No plastic SIM, no airport queues.

Your home SIM stays in your phone, so you keep your normal number for calls and texts while the eSIM handles data. Cheaper than roaming, faster than finding a SIM shop when you land.

Getting connected

From checkout to signal in three steps

Buying and installing takes about five minutes. The only waiting happens after you land.

Buy before you fly Choose your plan and the QR code arrives by email within a minute or two. It also sits in your account as a backup.
Install while you have Wi-Fi Scan the code from your phone settings. Do this at home the night before rather than in an arrivals hall with no signal.
Land, then switch on data roaming Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line when you arrive. Your plan activates on a local network and the clock starts then, not before.

Getting Online in Vanuatu: Set It Up Before You Fly

A MegaEsim Vanuatu eSIM is $3.88 for 1 GB over 7 days, against $7.00 as Airalo's entry price and $26.00 for their 3 day unlimited plan, checked 12 August 2026. It runs on Digicel and installs from a QR code before you fly, which for the many travellers flying in from Brisbane or Sydney means setting it up at home and landing in Port Vila already online.

01 Buying a Vanuatu eSIM from Australia

Most visitors to Vanuatu arrive from Australia, and the question people ask is whether to sort connectivity before leaving or on arrival. Sort it before. Your Australian plan will either not work in Vanuatu at all or will charge international roaming rates that make a few days of maps and messaging cost more than the flight's checked bag.

Install the eSIM at home while you still have wifi, leave it switched off, then turn the line on when you land at Bauerfield. Your Australian number stays active for calls and texts on your normal SIM, and the eSIM carries the data.

02 What does an eSIM for Vanuatu cost?

Prices checked 12 August 2026 in US dollars on each provider's own Vanuatu page.

1 GB$3.88 for 7 daysfrom $7.00unlimited only
3 GB$10.99 for 30 daysnot listed at this sizeunlimited only

Our unlimited plans run at full speed up to the daily allowance and then at up to 1 Mbps. Every unlimited travel eSIM applies a daily limit. Ours is on the plan.

03 Can I use a Digicel eSIM in Vanuatu?

Our Vanuatu eSIM runs on Digicel, which is one of the two networks covering the islands and the one with the widest reach outside Port Vila.

You do not need to arrange anything with Digicel yourself. There is no Digicel shop to visit, no local account to open and no prepaid top up to buy. You buy the plan from us, scan the QR code, and your phone connects to their network when you land.

04 Travelling to Vanuatu and New Caledonia?

Plenty of Pacific itineraries take in both, and a Vanuatu only plan stops the moment you land in Noumea. New Caledonia runs on a separate network with its own plans.

If your trip covers both, buy the country plan for wherever you are spending the most time and check a regional Pacific option for the rest, rather than assuming one island plan will follow you across the Coral Sea.

05 Where does coverage get thin in Vanuatu?

Port Vila and the areas around it are well covered, as is Luganville on Espiritu Santo and the main resort strips.

Beyond that it drops away quickly. Tanna has service around the main village and very little on the walk up to Mount Yasur. The outer islands, the Banks group and much of the interior of Santo have no usable mobile signal on any network. Many resorts run their own wifi precisely because of this.

Download offline maps before island hopping. No travel eSIM from any provider creates coverage where there is no mast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our Vanuatu eSIM.

Yes. A MegaEsim Vanuatu plan connects to the Digicel network and installs from a QR code before you travel, so you land in Port Vila already connected.

Yes, and it is the sensible way to do it. Install it at home over wifi, leave the line switched off, then turn it on and enable data roaming for that line when you land. Your Australian number stays active on your normal SIM.

Ours at the time of writing. 1 GB over 7 days is $3.88, against $7.00 as Airalo's entry price and $53.50 for a Holafly unlimited week, checked 12 August 2026.

Partly. There is service around the main village on Tanna and around Luganville on Espiritu Santo, but the outer islands, the Banks group and the climb to Mount Yasur have little or no signal on any network. Download offline maps first.
