Tayrona National Park near Santa Marta is one of the prettiest spots in the country, and it is also where your phone goes quiet. Inside the park and on the trails to beaches like Cabo San Juan, signal is weak to none.

The same goes for the multi day trek to Ciudad Perdida, the Lost City. You will be off grid for most of it. Use the data you have in Santa Marta to message family, then enjoy being unreachable. This is exactly why a prepaid plan that does not bill you by the minute makes sense here.

Leticia, the gateway to the Colombian Amazon, has basic data in town, but it thins out fast once you are on the river or in the jungle lodges. Coverage there is not something to count on.

San Andrés and Providencia, the islands in the Caribbean, have signal in the main town and tourist strips, though it can be slow when the island is busy. For a beach trip where you mostly want maps and a few uploads, a small plan is enough, and you can top up later if you run low.
