The best time to buy and install your eSIM is while you are still at home on your own wifi. You buy the plan, scan one QR code, and the eSIM saves itself onto your phone. You do not turn it on yet. It just sits there ready.

Doing this early means you are not standing at the airport trying to load a profile on a weak signal. First check your phone can take an eSIM. A Spanish SIM bought across the border does not help either. It connects to GibTel as a roaming partner, so you still pay roaming fees inside Gibraltar. A MegaEsim plan runs directly on GibTel, so the price you see is the price you pay. One thing to know clearly: the plan covers Gibraltar, not Spain. The second you walk across the border into La Linea, you have left the coverage area.

GibTel coverage across Gibraltar is strong because the territory is tiny. You get solid 4G and growing 5G in the town centre, along Main Street, in Casemates Square, around Ocean Village marina, and near the airport. Streaming, video calls and live maps all work fine in these areas.

Up on the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, where you find the Barbary macaques, St Michaels Cave and the views over the strait, signal is good near the main viewpoints. It can drop a little inside caves or on the quieter back paths, which is normal for any network in those spots. Download your map of the reserve before you head up so you are covered either way.

Most sightseeing days use less data than people expect. Maps, messaging, web browsing and a few social posts add up to a few hundred megabytes a day. On that pace the 1 GB plan carries a light user through a short trip.

If you upload lots of photos and videos of the Rock, share stories, or video call home each evening, you will move faster. The 3 GB plan for 15 days at $10.08 is the sweet spot for most visitors who want to share their trip without watching the counter. Save heavy downloads, big app updates and movie streaming for your hotel wifi to make any plan last longer.

Keep an eye on your remaining data through the last couple of days. Your phone settings show how much the Gibraltar line has used, so there are no surprises. If you are running low, you can buy another MegaEsim plan and add it the same way you did the first one. You do not need a new QR code dance at the airport.

To make the rest last, connect to wifi at your hotel, at restaurants and at cafes around Casemates Square for the data heavy tasks. Keep the eSIM for maps, messages and quick lookups while you are out and about.

On your last day you do not need to remove anything in a rush. The eSIM simply stops working when the plan runs out or expires, and it never touches your home number, which stays on your normal SIM the whole trip.

If you are heading into Spain after Gibraltar, remember the plan does not cover you across the border, so sort out a separate Spain plan before you cross at La Linea. When you get home, you can delete the old Gibraltar eSIM from your settings to tidy up, or leave it. Either way you finished the trip without a single roaming charge.
