Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our eSIM service

It uses Swazi MTN, the largest mobile network in Eswatini. Your phone connects to it automatically, so you get strong 4G in Mbabane, Manzini, Matsapha and the Ezulwini Valley without setting anything by hand.

It works on most phones made in the last few years that support eSIM, including recent iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and other newer models. Your phone also needs to be carrier unlocked. To check, look in your settings for an Add eSIM option, or search your exact model with the word eSIM.

Eswatini eSIM: Where the Signal Is Strong and What Speed to Expect

This guide is built around one thing that matters most on a short trip: where your phone actually gets a good signal in Eswatini. Our eSIM runs on the Swazi MTN network, which covers the main towns and tourist routes well. Below you will see where the data is fast, where it can drop, and how much you really need to buy.

01 The network your eSIM uses: Swazi MTN

Our Eswatini eSIM connects to Swazi MTN. This is the largest mobile network in the country and the one with the widest reach. When you land and turn the eSIM on, your phone finds Swazi MTN on its own. You do not need to pick a network by hand.

Swazi MTN runs 4G across the busy parts of the country. That means good data for maps, messages, photos and video calls in the places most visitors spend their time. The signal is built around the central corridor where Mbabane, Manzini and Matsapha sit close together.

02 Strong signal in the central corridor

The best coverage runs through the middle of the country. In Mbabane, the capital, you get steady 4G. The same is true in Manzini, the biggest commercial town, and in Matsapha, the industrial and university area between them.

The Ezulwini Valley, where most hotels and lodges sit, also has solid 4G. This is good news because it is where many travelers sleep, eat and book day trips. In these areas you can expect real 4G speed, often in the range of 40 to 60 Mbps. That is fast enough to stream video, upload photos and run several apps at once.

03 Where the signal gets thin

Eswatini is small but hilly, and that terrain blocks signal in some spots. Once you leave the central towns and head into the countryside, coverage thins out. You may drop from 4G to a slower connection, and in a few deep rural pockets you may lose signal for a while.

Game reserves are the main place to plan for this. Hlane Royal National Park in the east, Malolotja Nature Reserve in the northwest, and parts of Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary can be patchy. You might get a usable signal near the camp gate or main lodge and then lose it out on a game drive. If you are going on safari, send your messages before you set off.

04 Arriving at King Mswati III International Airport

The main way to fly in is King Mswati III International Airport, near Manzini in the east of the country. Set up your eSIM before you fly, while you still have wifi at home. Then it is ready to switch on the moment you land.

The airport sits inside Swazi MTN's coverage area, so your data should work as soon as you turn the line on and step off the plane. You can call your ride, open a map and check your booking without hunting for a counter or a paper SIM card.

05 How much data you actually need

Match the plan to your trip. For a short visit where you mostly use maps, WhatsApp and a bit of browsing, 3 GB goes a long way. If you stream video or share lots of photos and videos, lean toward 5 GB.

Our plans cover both styles. The 3 GB plan for 15 days at $31.46 suits a relaxed week or two of light to normal use, and it is the cheapest option we offer. If you arrive and need data fast for just one day, there is a 3 GB plan for 1 day at $35.6. For a heavier single day, such as travel and lots of uploads, the 5 GB plan for 1 day at $46.16 gives you more room.

06 Installing the eSIM before you go

Do the setup at home on wifi. After you buy, you get a QR code by email. On an iPhone, open Settings, then Cellular or Mobile Data, then Add eSIM, and scan the code. On most Android phones, open Settings, then Network and internet, then SIMs, then Add eSIM, and scan the same code.

Installing the eSIM does not start your data clock right away on the day plans. The plan begins when the line connects to Swazi MTN in Eswatini. So you can load it days early and still get your full time once you arrive.

07 Turning it on when you land

Once you are in Eswatini, go into your settings and turn on the eSIM line for data. Switch on data roaming for that line too. This sounds odd, but a travel eSIM uses roaming to connect to Swazi MTN, so it has to be on for the data to flow.

Keep your home SIM as your main line for calls and texts, and set the eSIM as the data line. That way you keep your own number while paying local data rates. If nothing loads in the first minute, restart the phone. That single step fixes most first time hiccups.

08 eSIM versus a local SIM or roaming

You can buy a Swazi MTN SIM card at the airport or in shops in Mbabane and Manzini. But that means finding a counter, showing ID and topping up in the local currency. The eSIM skips all of that. It is loaded and ready before you fly.

Roaming straight from your home carrier is the other option, and it is usually the most expensive by far. Our eSIM runs on the same Swazi MTN network the locals use, at travel data prices. With a cheapest plan at $31.46, you get the local network without the local errands.
