Yes, a travel eSIM works in Guernsey, and ours runs on Sure, one of the island's two mobile networks. What makes Guernsey different is its status. It sits outside the UK and outside the EU roaming agreement, so some home plans charge extra here, and none of our regional plans include it.
Guernsey now has two mobile networks, Sure and JT, and our plan runs on Sure. Sure bought its rival Airtel Vodafone in November 2024 and moved all Airtel accounts onto its own systems in September 2025. Coop Mobile, a local brand launched in February 2026, also runs on Sure's network.
Sure is combining the old Airtel masts with its own network, and says that will lift coverage and capacity by up to 30%. The work is part of a £48 million upgrade across the Channel Islands.
Only at a few sites so far. Our catalogue lists 5G on Sure, but Sure connected its first two upgraded 5G sites in Guernsey in August 2026, at Centenary House and the Tennis Centre. The rest of the island is being upgraded in phases, so expect 4G in most places for now.
For maps, messages and video calls, 4G is plenty. Sure has warned that the phased upgrades can cause short planned outages at some sites, while emergency calls keep working. JT began its own Guernsey 5G rollout around St Peter Port in June 2026, but our Guernsey plan does not use JT.
Not always, because Guernsey is not part of the UK. It is a Crown Dependency, and it is not part of the EU roaming agreement either, so each UK network decides how to bill it. Some include the island in your allowance, while others charge you by the megabyte.
On giffgaff, Guernsey is left out of the EU roaming allowance and data costs 20p per MB. At that rate, one gigabyte of maps and photos would come to about £200. Three, on the other hand, lists Guernsey in its Go Roam in Europe zone. Check your own network's roaming page for Guernsey by name before you travel.
If you use our plan for data, keep your home SIM switched on for calls and texts, but turn data roaming off on that line. Then nothing on the home line can run up a data bill while you're here.
Our Guernsey plan is sold for Guernsey, and Jersey has its own plan with us. If you're hopping between the two, install our Jersey plan as well before you leave home. Each plan's days only start when it first connects to a network in its own island, so the second one waits until you get there.
Once both are on your phone, set mobile data to the line for the island you're on and switch the other line off. That way only one plan is in use at a time.
Alderney and Sark are two of the smaller islands in the Bailiwick, and the regulator, GCRA, lists Sure among the networks serving both. If a day on either island matters to you, ask our support team to confirm before you buy.
All five Guernsey plans run on Sure, and each one starts its days when it first connects on the island. There's no unlimited option for Guernsey at the moment, so if you stream a lot or work online, the 20 GB plan is the one to look at.
