Mobile internet in Trinidad and Tobago: what you are working with
Two networks share the country: Digicel and bmobile. Both are quick in Port of Spain and San Fernando, where 5G is arriving, and both hold up along the main roads. Digicel has the edge outside the cities, with near nationwide 4G that includes Maracas and Tobago. The Tobago interior and the remote beaches have weak spots on both networks, which is your excuse to actually watch the sunset.

Option 1: buying a local SIM card at Piarco
Both carriers have kiosks at Piarco International, and both need your passport for registration. The local prepaid plans are honestly spectacular value once you are set up:
- Digicel: the SIM costs about $7, and their day plans are wild: 25 GB for one day for about $4.50, a week of 30 GB for about $21.50, a month of 30 GB for about $46.
- bmobile: nearly identical day and week bundles, with a 30 GB week around $18 and big monthly options.
- Both carriers also sell official tourist packages in US dollars, around $20 for 3 days or $35 for a week with big allowances, though these cost noticeably more per gigabyte than their regular local plans.
The catches are the usual Caribbean ones: kiosk hours do not always match your flight, the queue lands exactly when you are most tired, registration takes passport and patience, and the tourist branded packs carry a premium over what locals pay for the same towers.
What about US carrier roaming?
Trinidad and Tobago is included in the US day passes: Verizon at $10 a day, AT&T at $10 a day, T-Mobile at $5 a day for full speed. A week of Verizon is $70, which is more than a local month of 30 GB costs. Roaming remains the most expensive way to scroll Instagram ever invented.

At the entry level we are simply the cheapest: $6.71 against $8 to $9 everywhere else, on the better network for two island trips. For very heavy data on a long stay, the honest answer is a local Digicel plan from a mall store, and we would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. Most one week visitors never need it.
A word about Carnival
If you are coming for Carnival, know two things. First, the networks get crushed around the parade routes and the big fetes, so everyone's data slows at peak moments no matter the SIM. Second, your data use will double: live streams, endless videos, group chats coordinating where the truck is. Size up a tier, download offline maps of Port of Spain, and agree a meeting point with your crew that does not depend on signal at 3pm on Tuesday.
